The AbilityLinks Blog

2011 marked the ten year anniversary of AbilityLinks. To celebrate, we hosted a business leaders breakfast, held two virtual job fairs, welcomed many new sponsors and consortium members, developed a social media presence, launched a new version of our website and this blog.

Through all these channels, we hope to provide improved opportunities for networking between employers and AbilityLinks job candidates, career counseling tips and useful disability and employment information.

Meet Michael Cabin, an AbilityLinks Success Story Like most high school sophomores, Michael Cabin hadn’t given much thought to his future, especially college. One day during a classroom activity, he was introduced to the stock market. “We chose stocks and watched how well they performed. It was exciting and interesting and I was hooked,” Michael confirms. “It was around this time that I started contemplating what I wanted to do with my life, and realized I would be competing for jobs with people who didn’t have a disability.

On October 13, AbilityLinks.org hosted a Business Leaders Breakfast Event as part of its year-long tenth anniversary celebration. The breakfast event entitled A New Corporate and Business Frontier: People with Disabilities, brought together leaders and executives of inclusive corporations to explore the benefits of reaching people with disabilities as employees and as customers. Nearly 200 individuals were in attendance for the captivating panel discussion.
